Researching gas fireplace inserts and found that Mendota and Jotul, and maybe others ,have a split valve system where you can turn off one set of burners and even further lower the other to manage heat in a room. This will allow us to use the fireplace for the first time in about 30 years and provide heat and bring coziness back to this living area of the house.

Wondering if anyone here has such a unit and what your opinions are of the unit? Our insert will go in a fireplace in the lower level of our bi-level home, which is about 1,000 sq. feet in size. We know it can't heat the upper level, except to warm the ceiling and perhaps send a bit of warm air up the stairs to the main living area.

Any reviews/advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
