Two weeks ago, I new nothing about wood stoves or inserts. I did not have a pile of wood. I didn't own an axe or hatchet. I was puzzled about what a "non-cat" was or what a "block off plate" was. (Would this plate keep the "non-wife" away?).

Now I have this.

The funny part is, I don't own a stove or an insert....but I will soon.

The budget will be moderate as I reface a formal fireplace in preparation for an insert of some type. I will post some pictures when that happens. But for now, as a newbie, I will lurk and learn.

Two years ago I knew all about wood and wood stoves. I got on hearth.com and now I find that I know nothing at all! My stove has a cat and it keeps scratching trying to get out but that is what keeps the glass clean.

I knew nothing about wood cutting or seasoning either but now I have 25 cords of that stuff just sitting around all over the place.

Life is sweet sometimes. Again, welcome to the forum. We can use some more wisdom around here so just chip right in.

It'll be mores satisfying once you start burning. One bit of advice, keep a few extra band-aids in your wallet. But you might have figured that out already.

Wood with no stove is much better than stove with no wood. Get the stove and yer golden! Watch out for wood bugs, once yer bit its under yer skin and it becomes a way of life.

Ah, a newbie who will be doing the one thing most of us never did . . . he's getting his wood before the stove so the wood should be seasoned when he gets the stove it will be ready to go (assuming you're looking at installing the stove for next Fall's heating.)

A saw
A bigger saw
A splitter
A truck
PPE
A different saw
Lots of chains
More room in the yard
Etc.
