We are ready as we will ever be. If I didn't have to go visit moms house every day, we could stay home for quite a while in bad weather. May move her over here and install her in front of the fire. She eats that fireside up at her age of 88 years young.

Hmm, Farmer's Almanac said mild and less precip for the Southeast. I'll go with that prediction vs. the "more ice than snow" crap!

The thing to do is know your ready for most anything. I think it is weird how the almanac is so accurate. I will chop more wood, stock the canned peaches, & get out the crock pot. Just pay attention to the forecast...

Grandfather (Pamp) always said if the farm pond was full it would be a winter without a lot of cold or snow . . .

Other folks say to look to the wasp nests or the stripes on the wooly bear caterpillars . . .

Still others trust the Farmer's Almanac or the Old Farmer's Almanac . . .

All I trust is that come April 15th or so I will be able to say what winter was like . . . until then . . . oftentimes it's any one's guess.

Reminds me of an old joke:
TV Reporter does a human interest story about an old wise Indian Chief who everyone asks what the coming winter will be like. So off he goes and finds the old chief sitting on his porch swing.
So the TV reporter asks him: What's the coming winter going to be like?

I live next to a reservation (just under a mile away), and it does seem like everyone around me has an incredible amount of wood stocked up this year already.
Maybe I just wasn't as observant, or they are going all wood heat this year... who knows -.-
I could go and ask... but that would require going outside.

Keep doing what you are doing for your Mom. It sounds like a good reason to keep her close by. ;-) Shoulda woulda coulda doesnt work when they are gone. Sounds like she raised a great Son. Great sons usually are because of their Mothers. This is said with no disrespect for our Fathers...........Love ya Mom and Dad up there where ever you are..........
