It was around -5 last night as I went to bed. My fuel oil furnace wasn't working- I think the oil was gelling as it had been -14 earlier in the day. We have electric heaters in the bedrooms and the pellet stove was keeping the downstairs in the low 60's, so no big deal.

I woke up around 1 am and thought the air seemed pretty cold. Went downstairs and the stove was out and cold. 6 blinks. The stove lit ok, but the distribution fan wouldn't kick on. I turned the dial to off and it came on.

I fortunately had a spare esp. Disconnected the power, swapped out the esp and was back in business.

For some reason I only get around a year and a half out of my esp's. I was lucky to have the spare.

Fwiw, the esp I pulled out was clean. I always clean them when I do a stove cleaning.

I just unscrew the probe and wipe it off with a paper towel with a little glass cleaner. Yes, I also remove it before I clean the exhaust.

When the stove starts acting wonky, that's usually the first thing I check- after a good cleaning, that is.
