Hi all,

I'm in some murky territory here. I've got a Kitchen Queen wood cook stove I'm preparing to install in the kitchen of our newly purchased home. My partner is insisting that we install a range vent to vent away moisture and grease (to help with kitchen cleanliness).

Now, I don't know the first thing about installing range hoods, especially coupled with wood cook stoves. Do you have experience installing or using a range vent with a wood cook stove? Are they effective?

Will a range hood adversely affect the draft of the cook stove itself? How will it affect the air pressure in the space?

If it doesn't affect the draft, what size ventilation system is appropriate in a situation like this?

And how do you install a vent and range hood to interact with the stove pipe? Of course it will need its own exit through the roof, but... I just can't find any examples of how to tie the two together, aesthetically.

Any help would be appreciated! I'm pretty lost in this uncharted territory.

Welcome. A good place to start would be the inspecting authority. There is mechanical code to consider as well as fire code.
