Here are two pictures of some wood that was given to me. Can you please tell me what it is? Thank you.

The bark looks like White Ash - the smaller branches where the bark is younger, not the trunk of the Ash. The wood looks like maple, but Ash is similar. Is all the bark the same? That bark looks like younger growth, but it would be easier to ID the tree from the older bark. If you're posting new pictures, the end of a piece of wood would be helpful too.

Agreed

Thank you. Here are two more pictures. Maybe this will help hone in on it.

I'm thinking maple also.

Bark and end look a lot like hard maple. Can't get over how much the original side pic of the split looks like beech. I just split a bunch and the two r spot on.

I think the first piece might have been beech. As it turns out, I ran into the guy that gave me all of that wood. He told me there is some beech and Red or Swamp Maple in the batch (with oak). The photos (1st set and 2nd set) were from different wood. However, I was under the assumption that it was all the same stuff. So, I think you may be right Faithful....beech first; maple second. I am getting another couple of cord from this guy to begin stockpiling. There will be more of the same mix.

Sweet. That's a good mix. Beech seasons a little faster than oak, but burns hotter than the mid range stuff. Good score.
