Wood ID Please

I just got this from my uncle, it seems like a hardwood.

I know almost nothing about trees but I'm gonna guess cherry.

I'm gonna take a stab at it and say gray birch but that is just a guess. I refuse to eat anything ifn' I'm wrong

Need some left coast tree ID guys. I've never seen that here on the right coast.

Definitely west coast...nothing even close to that in the east...does it smell like pine at all?

I have no idea but that's some pretty cool looking wood there-is the grain Red inside?

It is probably my eyes/screen and no bad intent to anyone who has been burnt out of thier home due to the Santa Ana Winds, but that looks like its been in a fire.
hence firewood.

It doesn't seem to smell like pine
It fell from a combo of termites and the Santa Ana winds
We're guessing Ash?

Never seen ash that shade of red.
