Buddy of mine is having a hell of a time splitting this stuff. Any ideas? He thinks it is oak, but I've always thought oak was generally easy to split. Southern PA. [Hearth.com] Wood ID[Hearth.com] Wood ID

I don't see any definitive signs of oak. Any leaves? I don't remember working with any stringy oak.

Looks like the elm that I got from a tree trimming buddy. Holy smokes was it tough. Siberian Elm to be specific is what I had. I threw in the towel and borrowed a log splitter from a friend.
