I've spent the last 5 years clearing some land. While "I have a number of stacks I want to mill I have these piles that are not the best wood and most older useless stuff. There is some oak and maple in there but I'm not really keen on taking the time to cut and spit that. Any ideas how to get rid of this for a low cost or even make a little money on it? I've considered chipping and I can burn up to 4" pieces per town/state code.

You won't make any money, of course, but put it on Facebook Marketplace Free. Never underestimate the degree of motivation when offering free wood to wood hounds.

If free for the taking doesn’t work, will the town/state issue a burning permit in the dead of winter? Any low spots on your property that you could dump the unwanted wood into and let it rot?

I did the FB marketplace thing, it will introduce you to a world of people you didn't know existed. Eventually I found a few willing to work and take the free wood that were capable. Always the liability thing on your mind also.

If you have a way to load it put that in your marketplace listing too. If you were closer I’d come by and grab a few trailer loads for free. Otherwise you could buck, split and sell it.

There’s no shortage of wood burners in S. NH, and oil/propane prices are steep this year.
