wooden hats/frisbees

This hat was about 3/32" throughout- made from 1 piece of wood. Rod Daily took a class from some guy who did these as a specialty. This started as a log and is now about 6 oz.

I would wonder how long it would take to fashion something like that hat and how much sandpaper might be used.
