Question:

i have a avalon 900 ps free standing stove. The convection fan the one

that blows hot air out the front of the stove every now and then makes a wierd

noise and stops for a little while. For 1hour or so then starts back up could

it be going bad. The stove is about 10 years old not sure if fan was replaced

at all.

Answer:

You are correct.

The motor has a thermal overload built into it. When the motor gets too hot,

usually because it is wearing out, it turns off. It turns back on again after

it cools.

You can try removing and cleaning the fan and motor with compressed air. You

might also try a drop or two of oil either where the shaft enters the motor or

at the oiling points (if marked).

This may extend the life of the motor by a few months.
