Hello Everyone. Great forum. I’m looking to see if my expectations are off for my 40k BTU propane insert that was installed in my homes old fireplace.

First ... some information on the house. I am in a 284 year old house, with 10 Ft ceilings and open doorways with large old windows. I greatly understand the challenges. This house is in Maine as well.

I heat the whole house with oil at 60 Degrees. House is never really cool.

Second Piece. I purchased a 40k BTU fireplace for a room that is 600 square ft.

The problem is I do not think it is doing the job well. For me to keep this room at 70 Degrees 8 feet in front of the fireplace this stove is struggling. I’m burning almost 5 gallons in 12 hours and after 4 hours on high I can still hold my hand on the mesh net protector in front of the glass.

I expected this 40k BTU insert would blast us out of this room especially within a couple feet in front of it.

Am I wrong in thinking there is a potential issue?

Laser temperature inside unit 600 Degrees. Air temperature coming from vent is 170 to 200 degrees depending on fan speed.

Picture is my dog sleeping in front of the Jotul 635 after it had been on high for 4 hours.
