Is that a flue pipe thermometer?

Yes that is a stovepipe Thermometer. Either put it on the stovepipe 12-18" up from collar or disregard the colored sections and just pay attention to temperature number.Honestly I don't know. The guy who cleaned my chimney gave it to me. I am new to woodstoves

I have an insert so I can't put it on the stove pipe. I thought once I was in the red at 500 I was over firing. If I can go to 700 without causing any problems to the stove or liner that would be great as it will definitely help keep the house warmer
This is a stove top thermometer. I got it on Amazon. Put it on the hottest part of your stove, the hottest part on mine is near the chimney. Just took that pic, had a good fire going and looked at it, saw it was a little hot so I turned the air back a bit. Best option is a probe thermometer that goes into the chimney, especially if you are using double wall pipe
I am new to all of this so I am not familiar with what a double wall pipe is and can I use a probe thermometer into the chimney with a quadra 3100i insert.
I didnt realize it was an insert. I guess installing a probe thermometer would be a bit of a challenge in that caseShe has an insert with probably a liner. No pipe.

My head is spinning. This is a stove top thermometer.

It stopped spinning. Thanks. The temperature range is different on a stove top thermometer. If you go by the overfire and burn zone. If you go by the actual degrees, it doesnt matter which one you use
Not sure if you can tell by my pic, but you can see like an inner chimney inside the outer larger section. Basically you have a 6 inch chimney pipe where your flue gasses flow through and then you have a larger 7 inch pipe around that which insulates the 6
deborita there are stove top thermometers and stove pipe thermometers. Both read temperature but have different painted ranges on them. You can use the thermometer you have for stove top reading but you will have to ignore the painted ranges and just go by the temperature reading.

All this time I was going by the painted range. When it hit 500 I thought it was over firing and did everything to cool it down when all this time I had really good heat. I learned something. LOL. I appreciate all the help from everyone. My living room and dining room was at 80 degrees today and the hallway 67. Was nice and comfortable!
Looks like your wood is good after all if that's your stove top temp, enjoy the heat.
