Hello, Newbie here. I live in a condo and have a small Superior HC3200 fireplace from 1988. I haven’t used it in forever so I had a chimney sweep come out to see if it was safe to use or needed repairs. He noticed a few hairline cracks and a hole. He said it probably wasn’t being made anymore and he could cut all new panels at $350 a panel x4 =$1400 + $500 for the sweep and installation. I actually found a refractory panel kit online for the Superior HC3200 at smgeneralstore.com for $699 +$500 for sweep and installation. My questions:
1. Is $350 a panel crazy or is it normal because I live in the Washington D.C. area?
2. If it’s exorbitant should I trust this guy to install the kit if I order it?
3. He didn’t use a scope to look into my flue to see if there were other problems. Should I ask him to do that before I order the kit?
Thanks in advance for any help, Lili
