1st time in 8 yrs having my doubts about my wood

Another 5" is expected for tomorrow. My wood is primarily in the rear of my 2 acre property. I have never had problems getting back there until the winter from hell (maybe thats not the best decription).
I do have some stashed closer but don't know if I can get there either. I'll try again in the morning with the tractor.

This winter will make a lot here rethink where next year wood will be stored. I had this happen the first year we burned. I snowed ever week that year. I spent ever weekend shoveling a path to the wood pile. Now all the years wood is under a covered side deck.

I am in a similar situation. I have 10 cords down in my back yard. Problem is it's a steep hill to bring it to the house. I need to move a trailer out of the way, put the chains on the tractor and get to work. I only have 3 days of wood remaining at my house so that will be my project for tomorrow.

Yes I was looking forward to splitting with my Huskee 22 in January, but it's ending up that all I do is shovel snow and have no desire to Split my rounds, luckily I had a few nice days in between to get my cedar kindling done, but that's
been it for the month, mostly burning a lot of wood, one more reason to really get ahead......
Get ahead all, think of the future, now....easier said then done, but..........

My son is 11 now, I know I have a short window of working with him but its a joy, I've become lucky, I know you have a totally different type of situation so you may need to adjust things for next year, take the bad from this year and do something next year so it's not the same situation then, we all learn from experience at any age......

This is a very unusual winter for us. I do have assorted stashes stored around the house. But they are only desiged to last a week or two, not a month or two.

I have the same problem but when I know a storm is coming I stash as much as I can in the house and garage. Tomorrow I'll dig out the stacks until the next snow.

This is my first bad winter in my new house, and it's a learning curve. Luckily I replenished my stack in the driveway before this last big storm. However I will be out of wood in 2 weeks or so. Need to snowblow a path to the stacks. Not even the quad will go through 2 feet of snow!

For you guys stuck with waist deep snow between you and the wood piles, how about snowshoes and a plastic sled? I've got mid thigh deep snow in the yard but I can strap on a pair of snowshoes and walk on top of it and only sink 5-6 inches...

This is why I stack wood right at my basement door under a deck, usually at least enough for a month.

I started this after the winter of 2009-2010 when we had snow on the ground for about 3 months and walking through it to get to the wood became really tiring. Next 3 winters I made sure I had at least a month's worth there at all times, but those winters didn't give us very much snow at all, and I remember having most of that stack in March as the temps were warming up. This year, my daughter asked to keep her rabbit hutch under the deck for the winter. I told her sure and only put 1/3 of the wood under there that I normally do, thinking what are the odds of THIS being the really bad winter? So that wood is gone and in a couple of days I'll have to shovel a path to the main woodpile. First time in 5 years...

This is my first full year burning and I learned the hard way too, I had about a quarter cord on my back deck covered by an awning, I thought I was set for a few weeks, well we had alot of rain and it ended up getting soaked. That's when I decided to put atleast a months supply into the garage, I didn't want to do it but there was no other choice......

Moved some wood today. Got the tractor out of the shed. Got stuck. Put the chains on. Moved snow. Got stuck. Put the counter weights on. Loaded up eith wood. Got stuck. Got more weight...all set! Who knew three recycle bins fit so perfectly in the bucket. First time doing that.

We have over a foot on the ground, I did not measure how much. It sure is heavy snow after the last mixed storm.

Thanks, I love that little tractor. It's always a pleasure using it around the yard. I lost out on a 646 before this one came up for sale. I am always amazed at how capable of a machine they are.
