So hot here yesterday afternoon and evening my AC was struggling to keep the house below 75. Topped out at 97 at my house. Supposed to be the same today.
When it gets that hot, I have to cover some windows temporarily to block the sun. Last time I taped newspaper on the south and east facing windows. Sheets would also work.

The first wave of storms hit, over 1000 without power up in the north country but not in our area, we did have some heavy rains which we needed.

I know what you mean. One house I had was really bad. It had central air, but so many big west facing windows that the AC couldn't keep up. I didn't want to invest in expensive roller shades ect so I had to tarp them. It was on the back facing a storm pond so no one could see.

I see something on the radar near Rutland however I have no idea where that is. Seems to be heading east

It looks like the worst is staying just south of us. When you say Rutland are you talking Vermont?

This last storm that moved through south of us should be heading toward Rutland, some of the storms that just missed us earlier or the ones we received heavy rain from hit Rutland.

Records were broken in NH yesterday. I live pretty much between Concord and Lebanon. This is the first officially recorded 100* day in 14 years (doesn't mean some spots haven't seen 100* since then, we are talking official temps).

Concord broke a daily high temp that has stood since 1870

I have both pull down cellular shades as well as curtains in my big windows (they face south and west). My smaller windows just have curtains, and for most of those I set up 1" rigid foam insulation boards to keep the sun out. I also have a curtain over my front door, which faces west. Friday I went out and covered up the small windows in my garage door with thinner foam insulation. On the east side, I have outdoor curtains for my covered porch (except the small exposure to the south.

Last year I had my house painted a nice light color - that makes a huge difference over the brown it used to be so it doesn't heat up as bad just from solar gain.

1870, 1919.....damn this "global warming" has been going on for a long time....

That's why we were called cavemen...we might have to start building in concrete and bury it in dirt to stay cool
With a smoke stack of course

It looks like we might have more heavy rains coming in, this is from NOAA,

Showers with embedded thunderstorms are expected to affect the
region Friday into Saturday. Some of these storms may produce
locally excessive rainfall and the potential for isolated flash
flooding and localized river flooding will need to be monitored
closely.
