It's a new year. Here we go. Stay safe and warm.

Light snow outside, 31 F. A reload just in to stay warm.

@begreen
I see this is normally an inglenook thread - I placed it wrong.

We're getting the same stuff hitting our area, rain, ice and snow but the power has stayed on.

We have more rain coming in so tomorrow will be spent outside cleaning the mess up so the next mess won't be that bad.

We didn't lose power but the freezing rain has the driveway all ice. The house lot has all sorts of branches down, the wife said. it looks like a bomb went off. These pictures are from yesterday.

Are you expecting that to melt? - Looks bad. We have been lucky here so far. It's all a question of timing. I'm in the city and the driveway is paved which helps a bit for melting. I only had to scrape once, and just put some Calcium chloride stuff down the other day.

We had quite a mess for24 hours or so, now everything is gone. Like it never even happened!

This does not seems quite right ! I know Toronto and area are getting a big snow storm and freezing weather tonight. We went up to 6C today and are expecting rain. Oh well, the pellet stove is running 24/7, as I can't be bothered with the heat pumps, and don't mind the cooler temps upstairs anyway.

They are salting the roads as we speak. Here in the forecast….. iguana you have to get the equipment out once a year to train and test it out…

The next week or so is going to be interesting, weather wise. I hope everyone takes note of the upcoming weather in their location and prepares accordingly.

Going to be very cold and more snow in the northern climates, but those of you in the south are looking at what could be some bad ice storms.

For those getting severe weather in the next few days, during your prep for humans and dealing with the snow/ice, don't forget to prep for you pets/livestock. Make sure you have plenty of feed in case trees/wires are down and you can't make it to the store.

For those that use hay bales for insulation (for crawl spaces or trailer skirts), it may not be a bad idea to add more before the low temps and even lower windchills hit.

Still too early for accurate ice totals here on the coast but inland some models are showing 0.7” of ice followed by record low temperatures near 0F. That will be devastating for NC and SC.

no, the more you prepare (as in bring your umbrella or rain coat) the less likely it is to happen...

Town dump is closing tomorrow as the windchill will be in the negative 20s F. further north it will be in negative 40s.

a wind chill. Stay at home, weather then again a good weekend

Looks like at the coast it’s going to be an all rain event. But forecast is calling for below freezing night time temps for a long time. 8 + nights. I can’t remember a previous stretch this long. Not super cold mind you it’s just not going anywhere. I tend two stoves may get old. I’ll run the heat pump for the warmest couple hours each day.
