The GFS doesn’t do a good job at snowfall totals but. Even had this amount would shut NC down.

Forecast is calling for 4-8” at 15:1 ratio. (Temps Some high resolution models show areas just off shore getting twice that. If they move on shore we could dumped on!!!

I’ve seen the ratio thing mentioned a few times this year, but don’t remember it in the past. I wonder what changed, technology or preference, that made them want to start mentioning it now.

Supposed to be our last cold day then a warmup. The osburn needs a break

It’s been standard for a long time. It’s the only way you can get accurate snow depths is to get accurate ratios. Most models just predict liquid precipitation. Then they need a ratio to get snow accumulation. It’s really temperature dependent. Colder temps make fluffier snow and higher ratios. 8:1 is wet. Anything above 20:1 is fluffy/powdery.

15:1 sounds like wet, heavy snow. I think 10:1 is standard snow, unless it’s betting odds on the forecast accuracy. lol
Standard depends on where you are...
SC: wet
SK: powder

That's what I recall too.
