$5800 for new BK Ashford 30.2?

Looking to get a new Ashford 30.2. I was quoted $5,800 for just the stove and another $530 for the blower from a local supplier. Mind you, this is the price for me to drive there and pick it up.

I know these stoves aren't cheap... but man, that sounds high, isn't it? Just scrolling through these threads, I see people have talked about prices in the $4000-$4500 range just a couple months ago, and prices closer to $2000-$3000 several years ago.

Am I being gouged here, or is that actually what these things are retailing for these days? Is this just the classic example of retailers realizing they can charge more because of the rebate? Still, this price seems steep. What did you guys pay?

I paid $4550 for a Blaze King Princess plus $400 shipping plus taxes in Canadian $. Blower quote was $630.

Mine was manufactured in Canada, don’t know if BK has a US manufacturing facility…maybe tariffs?

Hmm, that could be it. Did you buy yours from an online retailer or a local supplier? I haven't had any luck finding a (legitimate) online store to compare prices to

I’d call a few shops to get quotes. Maine is as far away as possible in the USA from BK so some additional fees will apply.

Sounds probably not far off since you’re in Maine. I think I was just about 6250 out the door picked up for mine in enamel brown and fan kit down in Pa. And I can only imagine there was a slight price hike since last year

There was a time 1929's or so when producers could not increase their pricing, and a lot had to close, or got taken over by other companies. I can't see your average consumer wanting to keep paying so much more than the last guy.

I called a couple other places. Best price I heard was about $5000 for the stove. That's including a couple hundred in tariffs. Still seems awfully steep compared to a couple years ago, but way better than the first quote. I'll probably just go for it anyway. Not having to wake up in the middle of the night to stoke the fire will be worth it, I think!

We pay tariff on ALL steel these days! It seems when the tariff's went into place, our suppliers in the US raised prices to us by 60%. Not certain that was the intent, but is the truth. Yes we have a production facility in Walla Walla, in fact all Ashford models are made in Walla Walla.

Stoves shipped to Canadian dealers only have warranty coverage in Canada. Same on this side of the border. Just a heads up...

Homehardware in Canada. I purchased it in May in and around the time the tariffs were hitting the news. BK had the Princess in stock(manufactured May 2025) so I’m guessing I missed any tariff charges unless BK uses Canadian steel then tariffs shouldn’t be an issue for me.

As far as $5100 being a correct or fair price for the US market I have no idea. Shipping to Boston from western Canada/western USA has got to be expensive, if BK is using Canadian steel in their US manufacturing facility then there’s another cost. I’d GUESS shipping charges would be in the $1000 range, $400 got my stove 1400 kilometres. In your case Walla Walla to Boston 4700 kilometres, I’d guess your quote for the stove only is reasonable, transportation is probably a quarter of the quote.

For reference in Minneapolis a month ago I was quoted at one local place for Ashford 20.2 in black 4640, grey 4840, chestnut 5320, 460 for fan, and 250 freight to store. At another place for the 30.2 it was 4800 In black after 450 alleged discount, 550 fan kit, 310 OAK. Tax extra at both dealers, though the latter dealer also had a 10% off stove and chimney installation special that just ended.

There are plenty other stoves out there that easily burn through the night. Might be worth shopping around for other brands.

Retailers face the same issues. You hear every single day it's hard to find good employees. Some say "if they have a pulse, we hire them". So when you need skilled labor (welding/fabricating/machine operators) you pay what you have to to get skilled talent. Incidentally, most of the stove companies are publicly owned. Do the research, read annual reports, unpredictable material costs, you find manufacturers make hundreds of dollars, not thousands.

BYD start at 4900 to 23K . they are made better with better batteries and are banned in the US cause US cant compete they want monopolies. so I guess China does not have to buy steel and all the other many items for the cars.
