I've had two recent scores. First a giant norway maple taken down by the city. I got as much as I could. All the easy stuff was long gone by the time I got there. Another group was there we helped each other load a few rounds and I split whatever giants I could split into a size I could carry.

The second was a huge doug fir a property owner had taken down. Wish I took a pic of the entire pile. I didn't want to pay so I was only allowed one truck load but the full tree would have filled my truck 3 or 4 times.

This tree was on a very steep bank and the tree service lost a large section down the bank. It smashed another tree lucky for them as it could have smashed a fence and barrelled into another property.

good score! I hope you had more than that axe with you! God bless you if you split that sucker with just that!

Haha that is my wedge axe. I know people say don't smash an axe with a sledge but I do it. I like the axe wedge because I can swing it and stick it into the wood then pound away vs holding a wedge and tapping hoping to get it started (or smashing my fingers)

I did blow that axe up though after a couple years sledging on it. Anyone know of an axe that's made to be hit with a sledge?

Yes that is a ram 1500 - nothing special but its served me well the 1.5 years I've owned it.

And lastly no I did not pay for the load of doug fir but would have had to pay a little - $50 maybe - if I wanted the whole tree. Cheap for a few truck loads of wood but I have enough and I like to say I never pay for wood so I declined.
