I am in the process of replacing the secondary burn baffle on my 3cb. Since the top of the stove is open, I’ve been toying with the idea of adding a layer of ceramic insulation over the top of the baffle to help keep more heat in the firebox, or so I’m theorizing. Does this seem reasonable or am I just messing with the designed thermodynamics? I have a big roll of 1 inch ceramic wool in house.

It'll also decrease the cross section available for exhaust flow towards the flue.
I don't know how tall the space above the baffle is, but taking 1" from what may be a 3" space is a lot. This could affect draft and smoke roll out.
I would not do it if there was no insulation in the original design.

The baffle is warped and a piece of the casting is broken off. Over firing over the years I’m sure. I’ll not be adding any ceramic atop the new baffle.
