Additional Wood ID

Our neighbors are on a roll with cutting this year. Our next door neighbor, who moved in last year, cut up a bunch of trees. The wood is all stacked, but not split. We took a few logs at his suggestion. Anyone know what kind of wood this is? MC is around 30%

Is it all from the same tree? The last three look like Red Maple to me, the first if it is a different tree maybe Silver Maple but I'd need to see the bark clearer.

It’s not from the tree that I posted last time. Completely different neighbor and tree. I’ll take more pics later today.

Definitely looks like a maple to me. I don't think they have native Black Locust in CT.

I think the 2nd photo in the first set is the best. The split and its stringiness say "hickory" to me. Guessing pignut hickory.

The one picture that had bark looks like either black birch or cherry, my guess is black birch if that is the same pictures of the middle.

2nd pics show its definitely not maple lol. Shows what I know! New best guess is hickory.

There's a ton of Black Locust in my area North/ Central CT.

As for why this looks anything like black locust that is beyond me - looks nothing like it IMO.

I am a locust expert. I was just burning some last night. That is not black locust.

We need bark pics too. The best species identification is done by seeing bark, end grain and fresh split pieces together in one picture.

horrific so my best guess is Fire Wood

Second 2 pics locust
next 2 pics red maple with rot in the center of last one

I'm sticking with black birch, no way is there any locust there. Theres a couple pics with bark, doesnt look like hickory.
