Advice for new stove options

I currently have an old VC Vigilant in my house. I would like to replace it with a more efficient and cleaner stove (something with an ash pan!).
I was looking at a VC Encore. The problem is my current stove is rear vented 8” pipe and the center of the pipe is 28.5”. From Vermont castings website it looks like the rear vent needs to be 23.75”.

does anyone have any suggestions on what my options might be?

I will give Woodstock a call. I was trying to avoid lining the chimney, but I may just have to.

Is building a raised hearth an option? I would have a camera inspection done. 8” really limits your stove choices. How much wood do you burn?

A couple years ago the Jotul F600 would have been worth considering, but the options for a large rear vent stove have diminished considerably since 2020. Is the Vigilant installed freestanding in the room with a rear vent or in a fireplace? If freestanding in the room, then consider raising the thimble height to around 6ft. That would open up many more possibilities. Other than that, creating a raised hearth for a new VC may be the only option or something like an MF Fire Nova 2 on a built-up hearth.

I replaced my Vigilant last year and had the same problem(minimal 8" rear exit options). Ended up moving thimble up and lining chimney.

I would say if you are moving the crock up move it up allot so you can use a top vent stove it opens up the options allot

I actually called yesterday to have my liner inspected and see what I have for options. Oddly enough the man was in the area and stopped by. He can reline the chimney with a 6" liner which should give me a bit of play in my center flue height at a very reasonable price. So I think I am going to go with an ideal steel which can rear vent in 1" increments up to 29". I also have the option to do the Absolute Steel. which rear vents at 28". Thanks guys for the advice!
