New Timber Ridge 49 CPM / 10 CPM, first dry run and it displayed two nines not ones. It did go to su...could there be a problem with the board?

Sounds fine. That just means that it is set to heat range 9 and blower speed 9. Don't run the stove in that setting for more than an hour. I have had an over heat shutdown at that setting. I leave my blower speed in 9 all the time. Check your factory settings of the bottom three buttons.
