Feeling the Heat
Aug 30, 2012

Central BC
With the over night temps dipping down to 6::C - 8::C (43::F - 46::F) and the wood stove as our main heat source (I refuse to turn on the electric baseboards unless we are away for a few days), I am thinking that I may have to have a few quick, hot fires in the next couple weeks.
I can't believe, it's August, and I may have to burn some wood.

Last couple weeks lows in the mid to low 50's evenings, this week looking at 90 come Wed. lows upper 60's according to the local soothsayers.

Same thing here, hasn't been over 80 in over a week, 50`s in the morning. The heater hasn't kicked on yet and it's now suppose to be hot and humid the rest of the week. I want to like the stove just because it's so damp even the sofa feels wet but hubby will freak...against the laws of nature to burn in August around here ;).

Ouch. We have started the, usually in September, "Had my first fire." posts already. !!!

Well, actually I had my first one today. Tossed six old pallets in the fire pit and had flames five feet high and eight feet wide. ==c

Some (not me) blame Climate Change. ;)

Carry on....

Brian; where do you live in BC?

I have not had a fire yet. My stove is in my basement and I have quite a few windows on my main floor. The house warms up to 23-24 in the day *even if it is 17 outside* due to the sun. The basement has just stayed warm so far: 21-23.

Port McNeill sunrise this morning with fog over the water.

We have had almost two months of this weather now - beautiful sunrises with low level fog. No issue with the first fire of the season here with heat storage just burning about every 10 days.

With the morning to mid day fog, it has been interesting for boaters. Lots boats blowing their fog horns.

Andrew, I live in Vanderhoof (central BC)
Our house, even on hot days will get to about 20::C, some times 22::C. We have some firewood, oops, I mean trees that block the sun from coming in the living room windows.
Really nice on those really hot days.

Allan, nice views.

Nice pictures from Van Island. Used to live in AB and would go there every 6 months for a holiday!!!

Vanderhoof! Very nice place. You guys sure get some dry heat!!

Hah, did a stupid thing today! It is near 90 so I figured I turn on the window AC unit to cool off the upstairs. I also have a pedestal fan that my darling dog tripped me towards as I was plugging it in. About an hour later, I heard water trickling through the pipes downstairs. I went upstairs to investigate and realized that the oil furnace was running! Evidently, when I tripped and caught myself with the wall, I hit the thermostat! While the AC was crankin cold air, the baseboards were pumping out heat! Thank goodness I realized it as quickly as I did! Duh! ;em

Might light one in the morning here 48 degrees right now suppose to be 32 overnight. Abut an hour north got 6 inches of snow today. Wont be long probably 3 weeks or so before we are snow covered for the long haul.
