Had some good temps in Michigan for cutting. 65 degrees. Took advantage of the temps and went out after work. Dropped some standing dead barkless elm. I hate splitting it, but worth the btu's and short seasoning time!
Nice, that stuff looks like it's almost ready to burn. I grabbed a down Red today, about that size, but I don't think it's quite that dry. It was losing its color toward the bottom of the trunk but there should still be some decent heat in those. The rest was still in real good shape.
x2 on not splitting much of that. If you have time and space just give this an extra year and burn as is. I love that size elm - especially in the pre-seasoned condition!!
Nothing better than standing dead barkless red elm. Right up there with red oak in my book, with out the two year wait. I've got about a 30 incher waiting for me, needs the bobcat to finish pulling it down (hung up).
