The bark, leaf and end grain look like ash. Ash usually splits pretty easily though. It might be that you have a knot in that piece and the others should hopefully split easily. If it's ash, that's great news as it is a good burning and fast drying wood.

Looks like locust based on the bark. However, the pic with the second leaf looks like an ash leaf.

It looks like ash.
Particular trees of a species might be tougher to split. I had an instance of a small, open-grown ash that was really tough.

Seawoody , FYI locust both Black and Honey do not have bark like this. Just thought a fellow Kinetic splitter would share this advise.

It's all fun until someone has to where a cone. My vote is Ash too.

Ash all day. One of the telltale signs is the little pinhole at the center of the round. It will be either empty or a little light pithy part about the size of a coffee stir stick running up the center of the trunk.

Agree on yard trees or trees grown in a windy spot changing splitting properties. They can get pretty tough sitting out there in the wind.

Ash x 3, pinhole in center. Love the ash, got a dozen here that need to come down this winter

Ash for sure
