Burning Hunk

Pic below shows my insert and T.V. location. The insert blows a lot of hot air toward the T.V. which we all know is not good. I have almost 2000 sq ft of finisned basement, but I live alone and do not want to go downstairs to watch T.V. Will the fan do any harm? Will it cool of the insert? I am hoping that it will also blow some of the wasted heat, back into the family room and down the hall way.

Many thanks in advance

Dont see any harm in that. Dont think it will cool it too much.

Mine is on a thermostat.

The stove will be fine. I would be more worried about the radiant heat from the stove that will hit the TV; with or without fan. Putting the TV in a cabinet that will shield it from the heat would be an idea.

I agree w/ Grisu. You may have to shield the TV from the radiant heat or make use of the wheels on the TV cart.

Move the TV. With a whole house worth of sq ftg in the basement there should be another location that works.

Mount that TV on the wall behind it's current location with a full motion mount. That sound bar probably can be wall mounted too.

Yep. Another vote for a barrier or moving the TV.

Is your concern with cooling off the insert or heat hitting the tv?

I used to have a similar set up with my TV location and stove placement. What I did that worked extremely well was to put a small six inch fan on the floor next to the TV on the side nearest the stove blowing straight up. The fan picked up the cool air on the floor and shot it as a stream up that side of the TV. I monitored the TV quite closely and it never got hot.

What's the distance between the TV and the stove? Looks like your setup should be fine IMO.
I have my computer monitor closer than that to my stove, doesn't even get warm even if the stove is in "nuclear" mode, been in this spot a couple years now...

The distance to the edge of the t.v. is just about 35"..

Just looking at it, I wouldn't think it would be a problem. On my 91 more of the hot air is blowing out of the front ports, not as much from the diagonal ports. There isn't a ton of radiant heat coming off that corner, either; Mostly it's coming through the glass, straight out. And the TV is at right angles to any hot air/radiant heat that is coming off the corner. But only you are in a position to know if the TV is actually getting hotter than it normally would. If you have an IR thermo gun, see how hot the TV gets when the stove isn't running, then measure again when it is.

But to answer one of your questions, no, the fan won't hurt the stove at all.
Thinking more about it, what kind of TV is that? If it's an old, crappy LCD, you might want to let it gradually burn up so you can replace it with an OLED, which should be coming down in price by then. ;) ;lol

thanks Woody, some good ideas. The T.V. is only about a year old and one of those SMART T.V.s that I can't figure out. Might have to use your idea and get a new one, and place this one downstairs where somebody else suggested and then get another stove for down there, since the chimney part is already installed. Come to think of it, I also have a extra 'fridge for the beer and snacks down there along with a pool table. Might have to start getting to know my new neighbors a little bit better.....

Yep, +1 on this idea and it circulates the air very well. I used a 12" oscillating as it was quieter and laid it down sideways with lock pulled out so not turn, then put under a side table and couldn't see it. Worked great! :)
