Hello,

I'm looking a buying a used 2004 Appalachian 32XLBW (insert). As far as I can tell this will be a great stove for my situation. My home is ~1650sq ft, recently sealed and insulated, 1 story with attic finished in with a bedroom, and I am looking to do at least 75% of my heating with this stove. The fireplace is at one end of the house and chimney on and exterior wall. Stove is listed as having a 2.2 cu. ft firebox with 12 hour burn times. The styling is not exactly right up my alley but for my current budget on this and the quality of the stove, I am very interested.

My hopes are to get 8-10 hours of effective heat from the stove between loadings using well seasoned mixed hardwoods.

I am fairly convinced this is the right stove, but thought I would post here for some more experienced points of view and info from those who might own this model. Can anyone tell me why this is a bad stove for me based on what I have mentioned? Also, what should I look for when inspecting the stove?

Thanks.

I own the 52 Bay which is the larger version of this one. Check out the cat and make sure it is in good condition, with it being 10 years old if they have not replaced it yet, now would be a good time so factor getting new cats put into it as part of the price. Plan on replacing the door gasket as well. Check the damper housing to make sure it is not warped.

They are good inserts, built like a tank and will last many many years.
