I need advice on the possibility of installing a wood stove in the barn for an occasional source of heat. A friend gave me an old smoke dragon; hardly been used, double door, 6" rear exit. Barn is 32'x56' w/ 12' walls 4/12 pitch concrete floor all wood const, cedar siding & shingle roof w/ trusses.
So question is what's the safest & most cost effective way to vent it and is it practical?

Class a chimney either out the wall or straight up is the best option as long as you keep 36" clearance to combustibles and install the chimney according to the instructions you should be ok as far as safety. Straight up would be cheapest but with 12' walls you might want to run double wall pipe to keep the flue temps up which will add to the cost.
