Barrel stove for a pole barn?

So it seems the forum is not the most friendly place for barrel stoves. I can't seem to find much info here on building one or operating one safely. I've seen a few, that when built and used properly seem ok. Can someone direct me to any post regarding building a safe barrel stove?

A barrel was never meant to contain a fire. If you want to build a safe barrel stove start by building a barrel out of atleast 3/16th plate with the proper reinforcement. Otherwise they are unsafe in my opinion. Or you could just go buy a cheap old fisher Alaska or something of the sort for a couple hundred bucks.

Thanks for the video. Is the stove somewhat air tight? There doesn't seem to any gaskets on the door or the flanges?

We used a double barrel stove to heat my father's garage for 10+ years. No complaints and I'm alright with them.

But, I have made him since switch to a 13NCH from englander and he is SO much more happy.

Burns way less wood and takes up so little space compared. Also put it on double cinder blocks so doesn't have to kneel down. Heats up the garage no problems and feels comfortable doing overnight burns now. Can be had cheap on Craigslist/MP

No not at all which is why they glow often and melt down at times as well

Barrel stoves are not air tight.

Barrels come in an incredible array of thicknesses also. I'm not sure I'd want to trust my life to one of the thinner barrels.

In 10+ years we never had an overfire or glowing barrel.....

......but I've been to 2 garages that were burnt down because of them overfiring to help clean up....

I know that many use them with no incident but i have seen to many melted down to ever recomend one. Or work on one for that matter.
