Before my first fire

My new stove arrived with a few scuffs to the paint on the cast iron face plate. These scuffs are showing bare metal so I want to cover them. My plan is to use stove bright metallic black to touch up the paint.

Should I do these touch ups before my first fire? I ask because I wont have the paint until next week and would love to have some added heat this week. I'm wondering if the touch-ups will any less apparent if I cure all the stove paint together.


Hopefully that made sense. I'm somewhat frustrated the scuffs are there having spent around 9k for the stove and install but I'm not sure I should be able to expect a perfect delivery and install.

A good installer/dealer would have touched up those spots before leaving. Call them back and let them be responsible for this. They should have the matching paint on the truck.

They didn't do a great job finishing to be honest. They did a great job protecting my new hearth and keeping things clean but the top piece of the stove wasn't installed completely flat and then the two scuffs.

Should I not fire the stove until they come to touch things up?

What stove is this and where are the scuffs? Is it an insert and the scuffs are on the surround? Is so, go ahead and burn. Pics are welcome if that helps.

If you know the exact match of paint then an option would be to buy it now, locally at a big box store.

I can snap some photos when I get home. It's the Regency Hi500. The first scuff is on top piece of the cast iron faceplate, right on the top edge in the center. The other scuff is on the right side piece of the cast faceplate, same idea, center of that piece, right on the edge.

I have read that Regency uses the Stove Bright Metallic Black but I cannot find it locally.

OK, in that case, light it up. The surround doesn't get hot enough to bake in the paint the way the stove body does.

Huh, so how does the surround paint cure?

It doesn't need to. The baking in process has more to do with temperature tolerance than visible looks.
