For all you with alot of experience what do you find work best in an old coal stove. Small splits or bigger splits or a mix of both?

I was just looking at an old coal stove for my garage. The price was right but I passed. I was thinking I have LOTS of shorts and uglies. Splitt up in nice softball sized pieces they wood be nice in a stove like that, once a good base fire has been established.

Ones made out of coal. 😂

But seriously for wood You are going to want as big as possible in there to reduce the surface area and slow down the burn
