I like using NIEL's to supplement my other wood, especially to throw one in before bed so I have good coals in the AM. But they are expensive. The best I can find here in the Portland, Oregon area is about $1.15 per log. I've seen others reference lower prices on the forum. Any tips where to buy? Is it better to buy during the summer? I'd be more enthusiastic about these if I could get them for under a dollar. Thanks.

I don't have access to NIELS, but the pellet logs I can get are very sensitive to moisture.

My plan is to wait and buy pellet logs for next winter _after_ the temp stays below freezing so I don't have the headache of trying to keep them dry in damp weather.

If you have excess shed or garage space I would look for end of season blow out sales in the next 2 weeks to 2 months as retailers make room for other seasonal merchandise.
