i have been burning my enviro venice 1700 for a month now, and i had my first power outage with the stove. the recent storm causes my neighborhood power to go out for 24 hours. all this meant was my refrigerator and freezer got emptied into the garage(sub zero outside), and my stove got stoked up more often.

my question is, can i get a battery to run the inserts blower for at least 24-48 hours?
jerry gig a car battery to supply the power?

surprisingly, i did not loose too much heat with the blower being off.
however, with temps at 10 to negative four Fahrenheit, my little insert is having a hard time keeping the house warm(woke up to 58 degrees, and had to turn on the furnace to subsidize the insert)

Just buy a small "inverter" . It changes 12DC to 120 Volts AC. A small one should run the blower. (& maybe a few LED lights strategically place so you don't trip looking for & loading firewood) :)

Same thing solar panels use to convert DC voltage to AC.
Google "DC to AC inverters". should give you a place to start looking in your area.

Small generator is a good idea too. Bigger one : say 5 kw one, will almost run the whole house normal.

They make power inverters a large range of output. We have a 3500 watt 12v inverter we use at the farm. We use it for running a small mig welder in the field. If the battery get low on power we just use jumper cables to a tractor or truck to charge it back up. Our farm is off grid we run off a forklift battery for 2-3 days then fire up the generator to charge it back up. Its a lot more fuel efficient that way as the generator is only used when we have a big load for it. And we do not have to listen to a generator except the last day we are up there.

My dad called me a 1/2 hr ago said he has been without power for over 24 hrs. And he sleeping in his winter cloths last nite. I had to tell him to get over here and grab a seat next to the fire!

Inverters are great but remember a 120v 1 amp motor will draw at least 10 amps from the battery... It could take some serious battery power to run even a small fan for an extended period of time..

Bicycle & a generator to charge the battery, :)
Solar panel may put out enough in your area to charge the batts if current draw small enough.
Small generator probably the best idea.

I use my portable battery jumpers cigarette style outlet with an inverter. Ran for six hours to test, any more and the gennys coming out anyway.
