That looks like my prime stuff I save for the real cold weather. No bark and almost all heart wood. We are supposed to get some cold rolling in tomorrow night nothing like yall folks up north though.

I was going to buy the bk princess last year but bought the cheaper non cat drolet 1800i instead.

A load like that in my princess at these temps (single digits) will last me almost 12 hrs, I do cut it short though to burn down the coals so I can fit another load like that in there

Wow. That is one helluva load. I didn't know you could get that much wood into a stove and have it still burn. I call that a circus load...reminds me of those 20 clowns at Ringling Brothers that all pile into a tiny little car and still manage to fit.

About twelve hours usable heat,this was with -10 wind chills we had last night,at twelve hours the house was 70. One fact no matter what you burn ,the colder it gets the more wood you burn. By BK suits me well for the 12 hour schedule,warmer temps+=longer burn times.Could have gotten an extra hout maybe but i had a flame show for about an hour and a half,also elm is not a long burning wood least not from my experiences.

My BK king I can pack (I usually go east west) and have it on full bore overnight - it will last a solid 8-9 hours with plenty of coals in the morning to easily ignite big splits. That's all without a liner. Next year if I stay at my present house I will be putting a liner in.

That is what I have always liked about the King. Load the species of wood in the shed that gives you the output and the burn time you are looking for, set the tstat and forget about it.

I just find that it burns more evenly than N/S.

My experience after 3 weeks with the King burning fir, pine, and tamarack. I think the main difference between N/S and E/W loading is N/S seems to last longer because the wood on the sides is usually still identifiable by it's size when I put it in the box when the center is nothing but a coal or two. I have some 22 inch stuff that I have been loading E/W when the stove is about empty and it seems to burn at a more even rate than N/S, but still not certain about this - just seems that way. The stove is keeping the house so warm though that I have stopped trying to stuff the box and I am still getting over 12 hours putting in smaller loads in no particular order. N/S loading on a hot stove with coals is definitely easier!

It may not be a bk (some day..)but it's still a good amount of wood and it's all about 18"-19" in length.
There's still room for a little more if I was more selective w/ splits. Gotta hurry on a hot reload ya know.

T-roy I am a new BK owner and really like it. I have to say however that a close buddy of mine started burning a new HT2000 this year and it really does well. Very impressive. Troy S.
