Elm and ash combo 18 count em splits ,it's getting bitter here tonight.Stay warm.
A load like that in my princess at these temps (single digits) will last me almost 12 hrs, I do cut it short though to burn down the coals so I can fit another load like that in therehow long does that one untouched load produce heat for
I'm there with you. I can't get but 3, maybe 4 big splits into my Castine.Wow! That's three loads for me. I mix oak and locust for a pretty good 7 - 8 hr. burn. Coals in the A.M.
Wow. That is one helluva load. I didn't know you could get that much wood into a stove and have it still burn. I call that a circus load...reminds me of those 20 clowns at Ringling Brothers that all pile into a tiny little car and still manage to fit.Elm and ash combo 18 count em splits ,it's getting bitter here tonight.Stay warm.View attachment 190344
About twelve hours usable heat, this was with -10 wind chills we had last night,at twelve hours the house was 70. One fact no matter what you burn ,the colder it gets the more wood you burn. By BK suits me well for the 12 hour schedule, warmer temps+=longer burn times.Could have gotten an extra hout maybe but i had a flame show for about an hour and a half, also elm is not a long burning wood least not from my experiences.Ohlongarm, how long does that one untouched load produce heat for?
I was going to buy the bk princess last year but bought the cheaper non cat drolet 1800i instead.
Love the stove though!I'm there with you. I can't get but 3, maybe 4 big splits into my Castine.

I don't load E,W how do you like it any advantages,or disadvantages?ThanksMy BK king I can pack (I usually go east west) and have it on full bore overnight - it will last a solid 8-9 hours with plenty of coals in the morning to easily ignite big splits. That's all without a liner. Next year if I stay at my present house I will be putting a liner in.

Thanks I'm going to give it a try .I just find that it burns more evenly than N/S.
It may not be a bk (some day..)but it's still a good amount of wood and it's all about 18"-19" in length.
There's still room for a little more if I was more selective w/ splits. Gotta hurry on a hot reload ya know.
