Boiler pipe insulation?

Looking for a good source of fiberglass pipe insulation to cover some more pipe in the boiler room.

Any suggestions?

What thickness would you recommend?

It will be for 1-1/2" and 1-1/4" copper

I found it around here at a local drywall (and related supplies) seller - that retails & wholesales a huge amount of drywall. Not sure how much that helps? But it's good stuff.

How much do you need? if you're up this way, Go to Insulation Plus here in Stevens Point. they have all that stuff. otherwise I think they have a branch in madison. they'll do cash sales. I usually use the foam rubber stuff though. I hate fiberglass.

for stuff that typically is under 180F, 1/2" wall insulation is fine. I would go thicker if in an uninsulated space.

GG, I couldn't see spending the big bucks on the premade store bought stuff so here is how I did mine with homemade insulation. I had leftover fiberglass insulation from my boiler shed build, so I cut it in strips wide enough to go around the pipes I was insulating ( most of which was 1 1/4" black pipe) and about 2" thick. I stuck that to the foil faced bubble insulation from Lowes with some spray contact cement , then wrapped it around the pipes and taped it with leftover house wrap tape. Made for a pretty clean installation and after a few summer test fires I am satisfied with the results. Bruce

I did some of it a few years back. I was lucky enough to find 2 boxes of fiberglass pipe insulation on craigslist.

You won't be able to claim bragging rights about how much you spent or how pretty it is...
a couple rolls of R13 and some 1' scrap polyiso to separate the supply and return and I figure I've got less than 25$ to cover 80' of 1.25" iron. Made a simple pine board cover to make it go away and I couldn’t be happier with it.

I purchased the 1" fiberglass stuff with the sticky seam on the outside from a local industrial supply place and very surprised it was inexpensive. If you go fiberglass spread talcum powder all over your forearms and rub in to prevent the itch when you work with it.

Maybe I just thot it was inexpensive relative to all the other expenses installing storage. But I thot it was very reasonable and easy to install. Cheers.

I used the above fiberglass stuff with sticky paper.

I believe i got it at zoro.com. great website to pick out your supplies. I tried a few different kinds.
