Was -9 here last night and I think 6* today loading mostly oak and hickory. Pulled some apple from the stacks to get it upto room temps for tonight. Have been averaging 6-7 hrs usable heat from the summit. Haven't had the house over 73* for last 3 days Nice cold snap lol

When temps get this cold, we run the furnace over night to avoid any chance of baseboards freezing

We run the furnace, too. And two stoves. And a direct vent propane. And the mini splits. All at the same time. It's cold out there!

Same here, I bump up the t stat to 64 instead of 59

Also left a faucet running slowly to protect the pump and pipes.

I'm out of town in a warm hotel room. Just texted my wife to see if they're keeping warm. "Of course", she says. WAY below zero windchill and the last time we went out of town we found out our furnace isn't working. Nice to know I have lot's of dry wood, a big stove, and a wife who understands. Almost all ash, all the time for us.

-2 last night. All 3-4 year old locust and oak. Kept house warm last night, couldn't keep up with only 1 reload in the morning. It was 58 when we got home from work. Then again, it never got warmer than 18 here today. Running the horse hard tonight and it's up to 68 in the house and 13 outside.

Okay, play time is over, load that biach up full! Babying time is over.You should be getting minimal 8-10 hrs. Don't complain at 73, I hit 67 for a high yesterday, and 63 this morning. Wanna trade? Was 61 in stove room when I got off the road today, and 59 in the other end of the house. Of course I just threw some splits in before I left this morning, so my reload schedule was off. 3 plits of poplar when I got home, got me to 64.
Put some soft stuff in there between loads, and your house temp swing will be less, and no major cluster fugazi of coals when next reload time comes.

Are you getting secondary flames coming off the baffle in the top of the stove? After you re-load and cut the air, what's coming out of the chimney, clear exhaust or smoke?

Good stuff. My SIL is outta town; I'm feed her stove a steady diet of Dogwood that I scraped together out of the woods in spring...all dead and ready to burn. Me, I just fed our stove a huge Pignut half-round and a big chunk of White Oak. Should keep the stove 600+ for several hrs. Yesterday I dug out the blower for the Dutchwest and put it on. It was definitely worth the burns I got from installing it and the blocking plates on a hot stove. It's 15 and windy, 2-speed blower on low, but I still got room temp back up to 67...beats the hell out of 64.

I'm not complaining, I live with 4 women and when they're cold I gotta move quick lol. Seriously tho I'm lovin it.been loading to within a couple inches if the baffle and I think 67* feels just fine tho no one else does

I scrounged some dead dogwood last year but it's mixed in the stacks. Shoulda kept it separate. Going forward I will be keeping the "good stuff" in a separate stack. I have that one stack with mostly hickory, at least I had some smarticles when I stacked that

with temps around -7* tonight and wind chill around -23* I brought out the big guns from the wood shed, big chunks of locust and oak. I will attempt keep the badly insulateted house around 70*. The the battle commence.

Running around the clock. Saving big splits for night burns. Still learning so now I will make a stack of large ans a stack of smaller splits. I had been splitting smaller so wood would season faster. Now my stacks are laid out pretty good. Just hope I don't run out as I like to cut and split all my own wood that I scrounge. Around here it is nearly impossible to get a good delivery of quality seasoned wood.

My bridge load of Poplar burned down just as planned got 6 hrs out of it. Here is the coals left, just right. Don't look like much, till they are broken up and spread out. New load of OAK with 1 split of Hickory included.

Nice load hog, I loaded with BL, oak and cherry before bed 10hrs later stove top is hovering at 425 that was my longest heat time yet. I believe it's -22 wind chill this morning. Stove was packed so full I had to lay on the floor to see the light show

There ya have it. This will improve even more as you get to know the stove better through use.
When the temps outside rise, your burn time will extend further.

And Im gonna need a Dogwood switch to work this little shetland pony. Ive been riding this poor little thing real hard.

I'm contemplating a vc aspen for the kitchen they're a nice looking small stove. More for the hot plate than the heat tho
