I've burned quite a bit of yellow birch, haven't noticed this before now. I knock the bark of a couple of splits on the weekend and see some tracks (a couple semi-punky / uglies were in the mix). Never heard of the "bronze birch borer" before, but a bit of googling around seems to indicate that's what it might be? Anyway, just thought it was interesting.

. [Hearth.com] Bronze Birch Borer?

Up here Bronze Birch Borers attack after a long dry spell. The trees are stressed by a drought and the borers come in and kill the tree in most cases. Birch trees thrive in moist cool climates and some folks call them suicide trees when the temps get hot and the rain doesn't fall.
