anybody know if those flat beetle bugs (i think they are nicknamed potato bugs) that are found in clusters on splits are harmful?
i've noticed them crawling on my basement floor. in the finished side.

From wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodlouse

"They are not generally regarded as a serious household pest as they do not spread disease and do not damage wood or structures; however, their presence can indicate dampness problems."

Think of them as little lobsters. Gather about 30,000 of them, boil and shell them, and you can flavor some soup.

The toughest part though are finding small enough rubber bands to put on their claws. ;)

You're welcome. Maybe they infiltrated just to seek a cooler living area? They're fattening up the spiders for ya. lol Then you'll have these ugly buggers eating the spiders:

I get these ugly things every now and then....they are fast and hard to kill!

Investigate closely where they are coming from. There is likely damp organic material somewhere. Check for condensation behind the walls, especially where there is no vapor barrier or insulation. Also check sill plates.

Pretend they are Florida Lobsters. A little butter, a six pack of your favorite beer...
