Called dealer about PE T6 - he says it's not in production yet?

Is this true? I had pretty much decided to replace my Hearthstone Heritage with the T6, and I'm told it's not yet availabe. The dealer then said I might want to consider the Jotul F600 and the Morso 3610. He said these would heat as well, if not better, that the PE (we were comparing the PE Summit to these).

Anyone know if this is a vaild comparison? It just seems that the Morso and Jotul are both considerably smaller stoves (I couldn't find firebox sizes for either to compare with the PE). I guess if it is, they're all about the same price anyhow, so it doesn't seem that he was trying to get me to spend more money. As some of you may know, I'm looking for that magic stove that will hold 400+ on the stove surface for 6+ (preferably 8) hours.

I'd suggest you contact another dealer. Unless things have changed in the last 6 weeks or so, the T6 is in production. I installed my new T6 on Jan. 20. And finished loading her up for the morning burn about an hour and a half ago.

After the overnight burn of +,- 8 hours, when I get up in the morning the top of the stove is generally 300* to 350*. Sometimes a little higher, sometimes a little lower. There is always a good amount of hot coals left, so starting the morning fire is easy. I'm not an expert, but obviously the stove temp after an 8 hour burn will depend on how much and what kind of wood you started out with. Chimney installation will also affect the burn, and burn time.

Google Pacific Energies Wood Stoves, and you'll probably get a ton of info on them. There are also dealers on this site that will chime in I'm sure. I'm kind'a new here, but try www.chimneysweeponline.com . I think the owner pops in now and then.

I have a Jotul F600. It is a tremendous improvement over my old pre-EPA steel job, heat production-wise. 400 heat for 6-8 hours is pushing it, but it is close, and not to be technical but you can AVERAGE (high 500, low 250-300) that temp for a 6-8 hr burn. I can start with a strong bed of coals and 300 top temp, reload, run it up to 500 or so, and will not be back to the first step (300 and coals) for 4-6 hours. If it keep it tuned down more towards 350 max, then the 6-8 hr runs are very doable. I am finding 200-250 stove top temps after 10-14 hour burns and also plenty of coals to restart without kindling. I believe that is the cast iron at work, as my steel stove would have coals at 8-10 hrs, but no where near that kind of heat still coming off of it. I also have a fan on mine (a relatively new feature for 600s) and that makes a very big difference in pushing heat too. All that said, I am just over a month into my new stove, so still experimenting with air, etc, and may go with a flue damper yet as I have a tall exterior chimney. Approximate useable (open for wood, no baffles, etc) firebox size is 2.9 cu ft.

6 hours at >400 would be fine for me, which sounds about what I'm hearing. I can keep the house VERY cozy with the heritage for 10 hours at a time if outside temps stay at 30 or greater. At around 0 outside, the 400 F is a must if I want to keep the house at 67 or so. If I drop below that, the heritage can't provide that 700* spike I need to bring things back up.

Sounds like the Jotul is about the same as the T6 firebox size wise.

This dealer I talked to was really hyping up the Morso - making it sound like it was WAY under rated. He also told me that I WOULD be happy with any purchase from him.

Hi Mike, my take is your dealer is trying to sell you what he has. The T-6 is a great stove and will do what you want. (Summit would as well) Tom Oyen, chimneysweep can send you one if you can't get it otherwise. The Equinox would also do what you want to do, maybe even the Mansfield.
You may as well take your time with this one now that the season is almost done. You've got till August anyhow... If you can locate a dealer that has one in your area it will most likely be a good deal in the May-July timeframe. Otherwise, see Tom.

Nope, I don't care for Lobster It's my po'boyz humidifier, an old 16 qt. aluminum pot we used to use on our camping trips. When temps were down in the single digets and low teens, about 2-2.5 gal. of water wouold dissapear in 24 hrs. As the outside temps rise it only cooks off about 1.5 gal.

btw ... house was 69* when I got up this a.m. Love my T6

Yeah, the big ol' aluminum pot is pretty ugly. It's what I had on hand when I finished the install in January.

Screw it...he can order one for me. I just don't see how a stove with smaller dimensions (Jotul, Morso) and 100 lb less weight can heat like the T6, regardless of firebox size. gunner, does the T6 have a "flat" ceiling? And do the Morso and Jotul have sloping? My Heritage has the rear to front upslope, and it does get to be a PITA when I want really cram some wood in there.

I think he said he has a T4 or T5 in stock, so I can at least get a feel for the looks and build. I will probably take a look on Friday. A friend of mine is buying the Heritage from me, so that's taken care of...

Sounds like you are pretty locked in on the PE T6, so I won't try to sway you but will share a little more info on the Jotul F600: it does have a sloping firebox, taller front to shorter back, about a 3 inch difference. Per earlier post, that 2.9 cu ft (+ or -, I measured kind of quickly from the exterior due to fire burning) of firebox is total real area for wood stuffing - no baffles, tubes, etc.. Very easy to side load, which I do exclusively. Double door front not real condusive for front loading, imo, but sure that people do. I think some of the manufacturers include the tubes in their firebox size, based on personal observations when I was looking for a new stove.

Ironically, the dealer I was using also told me they could not/would not get the T6 - said they would not sell a "new" stove without a proven track record. Did offer a fair price on a Summit, but pushed me back towards Jotul. Didn't have anything bad to say about PE, just good to say about Jotul. They also sell Morso, but never once mentioned them to me for whatever reason. They have been selling stoves for 30 years. I walked in prepared to buy a PE, and walked out with a Jotul. I'm happy, and I think you will be too with whichever direction you go. If you really want/need all the heat you can use, get the optional blower - it is worth it.

Unfortunately, I don't have amny choices for PE dealers. I mean, what if I mail ordered from the Chimney Sweep? Who would do warranty work then?

The guy at Sally's Hearth and Home seemed pretty decent - though it is disturbing that someone claiming to be so knowledgable doesn't know (or lied) about the T6. I guess with that said, I might as well buy from the dealer up the street that told me he could only give me $500 for my Heritage - I actually asked him how much crack he had been smoking that day.

Oh, well. Guess we are at the mercy of crooks and liars.

Edit: Oh, yeah. I don't trust ANYONE but myself for setup. Seems that the people who are "trained" around here know less than I do.

It's too bad some of these dealers have the same attitude I find it very strange the 3 different dealers I have dealt with all seamed to have it and I had to work all 3 of them to get the answers I needed before I found this site. Although most of mine was chimney related it was amazing that I did not burn down my house do to "the expert" attitude. Now that I think about it the dealer I bought my stove from was about the worst, I still can't believe we didn't burn down the house getting pissed at this guy as I type! Oh well if I can help feel free to ask.

I can't think of anything I would need help with - other than opinions and experiences with columbus and SE Ohio area dealers. I went to Granville for my Hearthstone - too bad he's not a PE dealer. Great place to buy.

I have a '95 Dodge Dakota. I imagine we get the same fuel economy. I take that back - you probably get better.

I can at least go to Sally's to see what the PE Alderlea looks like, whether I buy from there or not.

OK, so the "it's not avialable" dealer now says it's $2750. The "around $2400" says they can check to see if they can go lower. I'd like to see what other people are paying/being quoted.

Also, no one has mentioned the quadra-fire isle royale. This seems to be another comparable stove?

Hey Mike,

I've asked for the production and cost issues to be clarified a bit; expect we'll see something here on that soon.
It sounds like you would only have warrantee issues if the stove split or something because you can/will do most everything for yourself anyway; so you need to figure out if your local guy would order warrantee parts, etc for you if there was a problem.
I imagine Tom would provide that support from a distance if need be.
And, if you liked the support from Hearthstone, then perhaps the Mansfield would work?
Basically there will be a bit of difference in burn times and the steel/cast product will heat faster.
It took me a bit of getting use to but after a while I learned to load the Mansfield to keep the temp in the house where I wanted it. If I wanted to get up at 4 on those single digit days, I had no problem at all; mostly I just let it float down a few degrees and loaded when I would normally get up. Burning in the shoulder season is proving no problem either. I let the coals burn down days when its warm and burn hot to get the temp up and nice at night. Mansfield here goes from low 2400 to high 2700+.
I would really have a problem dealing with someone I know is telling me what is advantageous to them; truth or lie.

Yeah, my Heritage can "do the trick", but reloads 3-4 hours apart are just too much. In fact, I was left with a cola bed so thick that I could barely get another split in. I really don't think the Mansfield will be enough stove for me.

YUP, I know what you mean. I might have gone for the Equinox, but they didn't have one, I didn't need the side door and wasn't sure I needed it. At 2400Sq/ft with 1/2 being cathederal I am getting real 8 hour burns (down to large coals). And my house temp is 66-68 at the end 70-72 during the burn. I really didn't need the Equinox, now that I've got the experience but it might have been nice. I was just so peeved with that Neverburn that the Mansfield was fine for me.
Your T-6 effort has made me wonder if I had gotten that (it was my other choice) what would my experience have been. I know it would have been easier to get that initial heat up when I got home or in the AM. And, I really like PE. (the summit is nice too and is the same stove as the T-6 except for the casting shell)
In the end, I like the Soapstone and am OK with the Mansfield. I am sure the Equinox would have just been cream on the hot chocolate...
In any event Mike, now that we are in March you have the time to get what you want and at a good deal. That is what will be best for you.
Tom has a client that has some good time on a T-6, perhaps he can get you some input from them, and on the warrantee and pricing issues.
