Can I paint the rain cap/liner; AND insulation below block-off plate question

1) Can I paint the rigid liner (and rain cap) up on my roof? Anyone ever do that? Just wondering as the trim on my house is red, and thought it might look nice to paint that rigid liner with high-temp paint. As I understand it, it will turn a bronze color over time?

2) I have excess insulation available. Should I insulate that first ten inch section directly above my stove's collar, or does it actually provide radiant heat into the home? Currently the liner is insulated beginning at the block-off plate.

You can paint it - it will likely last longer if you use paint designed for this use:

I would leave the pipe in the fireplace bare and get the radiant heat.

There is actually a terra-cotta color paint - not sure how it will last, but I've had decent luck with it on cast parts.

We often paint SS flues with stove bright paint. We will use the home saver SS paint as a primer, then coat it with the desired color of Stove Bright. It holds up good, the only time I've seen it fail is if creosote drips on it.

Thank you Gents, I shall look into this Stove Bright and Homesaver paint. I do have some cans of Rustoleum High Temp paint, but I do not think it would adhere to stainless steel- so I was looking for one that would.

And I will leave the part BELOW the block-off plate uninsulated as to radiate heat into the room.

If you use some stove bright, you'll never use that rustoleom again! It has poor adhesion and poor coverage.

we also use stove bright paint, but i scuff with 00 steel wool first and then paint.
