Can you share an intake and exhaust pipe?

The stove in the home I just bought has a duct that connects the air intake vent to the exhaust pipe. Is that proper or something I should remediate?

Nope, not good, you’ll be trying to re-burn exhaust gasses that will have little oxygen in it.
Could you post pics? There are some high efficiency exhaust systems that have an exhaust pipe sealed with an air intake pipe around the outside of it so the air is warmed as it comes in.

After taking the hose off I definitely feel cold air coming through the pipe

Great, so with a new hose and a thorough clean I am assuming I should be safe to fire her up again.
