Any good tips for pruning these things. THis tree is about 5 years old and grows like a bad weed and never produces even though it flowers up. Previous years i would just top it and trim the sides and the thing is so thick even if it did produce you would not be able to to get anything off it. This year since it did not produce i once again topped and trimmed it and then started to take allot of branches out of it thinning it out, will hit it again at the end of the season. One of the problems im seeing is from topping it the ends of the tops keep branching out making the top extremely thick. Yes i know this was the wrong time of year to do a trim but figured its not producing so why not.

Cherry trees produce fruit on old branches, so if you are pruning those away that could be why you aren't getting fruit. Sweet cherries produce on branches at least two years old.

I believe that most sweet cherry trees need a cross pollinator and both need to have the same bloom time. Most sour cherries should be self pollinating. There are a few sweet cherries that were developed not to need another tree (Stellas)

Did not know that not sure what we have now, ill have to look around and see if anyone is selling trees this year or have any left. My neighbour a few doors down has a whole yard of trees to bad that would not work ;)
