Creosote for first year of burning!

Well it's getting to be that time of year again, about time to touch off the first fire of the season. So I cleaned the chimney for the first time after 1 season of burning. This is what i found, its about a coffee can worth. Does this look bad? To much?

By looking at the color and consistency, and knowing nothing more of the system such as the type of chimney, length, etc,,,,,, I'd say you are doing very well.

Hello, thanks for the reply, The chimney is 6" ID, 15ft overall height, straight up off the top of the stove out the roof. I have roughly 8ft class A pipe, and 7ft of the single wall tin junk inside,But it works, I just slid the stove out from under the pipe and attached the bag to single wall pipe and worked the brush for a good while till all looked pretty clean.

That looks good to me. That's usually what I see when I sweep my chimney; light fluff that's very easily removed from the walls of the pipe.

Please tell me that this "tin junk" is actually stainless steel. You make it sound like you are using tin ductwork pipe.

Yeah it's just the black single wall that's kept next to the double wall. Double wall starts at support box in ceiling.

Yup. That's just fine. Make sure to start your fires using lots & lots of newspaper. That will help even more!
