Second one. Just cut down and cut up enough to get it out of the woods

I'll throw a guess of pin cherry out on the scaly bark example.

Here are my colorfull guesses;
1. White Oak
2. Red Oak
3. Black Cherry

Looks like a lot of oak leaves on the ground........

There is alot of oak leaves on the ground but there's alot of oak trees around where these are. The possible red oak was just a trunk and a "Y" at the top no branches leave or anything. It's been dead for a while. I cut them in 5' lengths and was able to pick them up and carry them to the truck. Top half checks out at about 25-27% MC and the bottom half was 39-44%mc

Yeah.....I'm not sure I would have even messed with that tree (#2), that's just me though.....looks like about 1/3 of it is pretty punky........should dry quick though once split.

I wasn't going too but my FIL asked me too take it out. So I did... he thought it would fall across his path to his tree stand.

#1 - Hard to tell. Can see pine from the way the branch grows out of the trunk in that "stab wound" kind of way. Or maybe walnut. Not ruling out oak cause the bark could be, but the crazy branches don't match. In other words, I'm not sure. Split and end grain pics needed.

#2 - Pretty sure that's red oak. Yeah, some punk, but there still is some good stuff left.

#3 - Black Cherry for sure.

Nice score!

I am seeing number 2 as white oak

Could be. Very hard to tell for me with all the punk and decomposed bark. I said red cause it rots quicker than white and the bark appears to be tighter. What are you seeing?

It reminds me a lot of wood I had taken from roadside recently. I am mostly looking at bark to which reminds me of rougher looking standing white oak I see when hiking. Nothing scientific, just a gut feeling on my part

On second look, I think you're correct about it being red.

Ok sorry for the delays I was able to get #1 taken down and here's some more pics...

Another oak (rays in end grain) and looks like it may be dry enough to burn sooner than later. Nice score.

I don't know, kinda looks to me like a mature version of one of those funky pines next to it in the first two pictures
