DHT 22 Ton Splitter Table Hack

Hi folks! I just picked up my new DHT 22 ton splitter the end of last week, but the 22s don't come with the log catcher. I really wanted to get some work done this weekend, so I came up with the following work-around.

These plastic saw horses that you can pick up from Home Depot are the perfect height. I am guessing that a lot of store bought saw horses are probably a great height for this application.

I had an old Oak desk top laying around that I set across the SHs to make the working surface. There are a couple of nice aspects of this set up; it fully protects the engine and vent cap, and it doesn't vibrate causing the logs to want to slid off the table. The only drawback is that it isn't as portable as an attached log catcher, but in my case it doesn't need to be THAT portable due to the size of my property.

The table height is perfect. I use the table top to hold logs to be split, and of course hold the large pieces that have been split once, but need to be resplit.

I was able to get a little bit stacked up over the weekend!

That works well for you. I try to work from my flat bed trailer (that I picked up in) to the splitter to another trailer (to bring to the stacking area), without touching the ground.

Gzecc, I completely agree! I recently purchased a Gravely 22 ton off Craigs List that I sold after a couple of days for a number of reasons. I used the same saw horses to support the ramp on my trailer and edged the splitter right up next to it. I processed a bunch of locust this way, threw the splits into the wheel borrow and took it to the back to stack. I'll use this system with the DHT as well in the future instead of dumping rounds in the back yard, but I have a bunch of wood already on the ground in the back that needs some lovin'. The table top is the best setup for me to help save the back while I get that done.

I used something similar until I built my table. Best thing I ever did as far as wood splitting.
