Hi, long time listener first time caller.

We moved into a new house sometime ago and are happy to find ourselves with a nice fireplace.

There are some features on it that I’m not familiar with. The fireplace has slides which i can’t figure the use of.

I’ve mastered the flue.

There is a slide on the front that opens vents/holes, And then there are two on the inside on the bottom of each side. The fireplace also has a blower that doesn’t seem to move any air.

What am I missing here?

I’ve searched this forum to the best of my abilities and googled as much as I could but have not been able to come up with any answers.

Would anyone here happen to know what these (especially those on the inside) do?

Thanks in advance

Steven

Googling brought this answer:

What are the vents at the bottom of my fireplace?

Bottom Air Vent - The bottom air vent on Old-Style Heatilator Fireplaces are where cool room air is drawn into the fireplace. The air is then routed around the firebox and exits through the top air vent where it returns to the room as heated air.Jun 17, 2020

The blower needs cleaning or replacement or the electrical supply is not connected/interrupted.

Make sure there are no rusty holes in the firebox. How does the flue/chimney look?

When presented with new buttons and slides, I revert to the 12 year old in me and push or slide them… repeatedly.

What happens when you do this?

Then I'm baffled at what the bottom air vent is supposed to do.

Thank you for looking this stuff up. It brings up more questions than it solves. lol

I will get the cover off the bottom part where the blower motor and workings should be and give it a good cleaning.

The flue/chimney look just fine. Things were inspected and checked just before we moved in.

I'm with you on that one and I did flip things back and forth. In the front it opens and closes the holes, on the inside on the bottom all I see it doing is slide back and forth with no apparent function.

Ok, the front sounds like a damper. It regulates airflow to either the fireplace or to the blower.

I have no idea what the sides do. They aren't in a spot that you'd touch during a fire. When you pull the front off for cleaning maybe you'll be able to see some linkage and figure out from that.
