Does cutting your own firewood really save you money vs buying it.

I burn about 3-3.5 cords of wood/year at $300-$400/cord plus factoring in the cost of the saw and splitter, probably not saving money. I’m retired but a working person should factor in his/her wages then definitely not saving money.

That being said, it gets me outside, free exercise and I can be picky on the wood that comes home.

I get logs delivered for free.
I have about $1000 in equipment and saved about $4000 in oil.

So absolutely yes.
Not counting my time as I would not be seeking a paid gig on top of my normal job, so the cutting and splitting doesn't replace earnings.

Like many here, there’s a seemingly endless supply of free wood near me. At the right time of year, I’ve seen full tree company loads (5-6cord) with delivery being posted on market place for free.

Of course your time isn’t free, but like others I still enjoy bucking, splitting and stacking. So yea, free wood is definitely saving me money.
