February, because I need to cut and (axe) split the logs, and that is better done when it's not hot. As today, when I was splitting uglies and knotty pieces for my neighbors....

This year deliveries were late.

I order split green wood in late March or whenever there's enough room in the shed to start stacking it.

(to burn 3 years from now)

I order my wood in late October right after I move the current years wood on to my covered patio I replace it with next years wood.
Yes, that's the best: right the moment one has space in the main storage. Don't delay. The sooner it's done the better - for drying and working weather.
For me that basically is sometime February. I stop burning in March, given that I only burn when it's <40-45 F outside for 24 hrs or more).
I can start stacking immediately as the bay will be mostly empty in February (access from 2 sides). The remainder I can move to the garage when needed.

Every 2-3 years, I order a truckload of oak + maple logs in January when the ground is frozen and less chance of mud on the logs. Saw/split/stack in April/May before it's hot and then it sits for 2 years before 3-4 cord is moved into the basement. 8.5 cord was $1,400 this year.
